How does the Fetch My Meds program work at my local retail pharmacy? What about online pharmacies?

It’s easy. Sign-up for your Fetch My Meds card here and print out your card or download it to your e-wallet.

If your pet requires a human medication and you would like to fill it at your local retail pharmacy, you will need to ask your veterinarian to write you a prescription. You must then take the prescription for your pet’s medication and your Fetch My Meds card to the pharmacy and present both to your pharmacist.

If your pet requires a human medication OR a pet-specific medication (such as heartworm medication) and you would like to fill it through an online pharmacy participating in the Fetch My Meds program, you will need to follow the pricing links to the pharmacy, find your pet’s medication, add it to your shopping cart, provide your vet’s and your pet’s information, and the online pharmacy will contact your veterinarian to confirm once you place your order.

In most circumstances with an online pharmacy you will not need to obtain a written prescription from your veterinarian first – the online pharmacy will contact the veterinarian on your behalf However, some veterinarians will not work directly with online pharmacies and they may require that you obtain the written prescription from them. Once you have the original prescription, you are required to mail it to the appropriate online pharmacy. For PetSmart, mail your prescription to the following address:

PetSmart Pharmacy
2815 Watterson Trail
Louisville, KY 40299

Make sure you note the order number associated with the prescription so the online pharmacy can identify and more quickly process your order.

Will the pharmacy directly contact my veterinarian for my pet’s prescription?

If you choose to fill your pet’s prescription at one of the 65,000 retail pharmacies participating in the Fetch My Meds program, you will be required to obtain your pet’s prescription directly from your veterinarian and bring it with you to the pharmacy in order to have it filled.

How do I get a prescription for my pet’s medication(s)?

Talk to your veterinarian during your pet’s visit about obtaining a written prescription for any necessary medication. Currently, only two states (California and Arizona) actually require a veterinarian to inform a client that a pet’s medications may be obtained elsewhere. The good news, however, is that the American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA) recommends to its members that once a client requests a prescription, a veterinarian should honor the client’s request whenever appropriate. For this reason, you should be able to obtain a written prescription for your pet’s medication. The key is knowing to ask!

What sort of prescriptions can I have filled at my local retail pharmacy? What about online?

While some retail pharmacies are beginning to carry a selection of pet meds, the Fetch My Meds program is designed to help save pet parents money on those prescription drugs which are used to treat both human and animal conditions. The practice of prescribing human drugs to pets has grown significantly and there are now more than 600 human drugs being used to treat pets. Examples of medications which can be filled at a retail pharmacy include anti-depressants and medications for seizures, heart conditions, infections, allergies, pain relief and diabetes.

Online pharmacies carry most, if not all, of the same medications that are stocked at your local retail pharmacy, but they also carry a wide array of pet-specific prescription drugs (such as heartworm medication). In addition, online pharmacies also carry a wide selection of flea and tick products, vaccines and veterinary diet foods.

I just printed or downloaded my Fetch My Meds Card. Can I use it right away?

Yes, you may use your card to start savings immediately on pet meds and other pet supplies.

For use at participating retail pharmacy locations, simply drop off your pet’s prescription along with your Fetch My Meds Card information. Be sure to confirm that the card was used and your discount applied before you leave the pharmacy.

If you want to order your pet’s medications online, visit the website of the online pharmacy participating in the Fetch My Meds program through the Fetch My Meds pricing page, add your pet’s medication to your online shopping cart, fill in your veterinarian’s and pet’s information, and confirm that the online pharmacy will call your veterinarian to verify the prescription). Once verified by your veterinarian, orders will typically ship within one day.

Is there an enrollment or application fee?

No, there is no enrollment or application fee required to obtain or use the Fetch My Meds Card.

How is the Fetch My Meds Card different from traditional prescription insurance?

This program is not insurance; it is a prescription discount program. The card provides immediate discounts at the pharmacy on all prescription medications. Upon presenting your Fetch My Meds Card to the pharmacist, a discount is taken off the regular retail price of the prescription. There are no claim forms to fill out and no limit to the number of times you can use the card. These discounts are available only at participating pharmacies.

The Fetch My Meds Card is accepted at more than 65,000 retail pharmacies nationwide, including many of the leading chains.

In addition, the Fetch My Meds Card also offers savings on prescription medications and other pet related products ordered through online pharmacies participating in the Fetch My Meds program.

What if my pharmacy will not accept the card?

How much will I save?

While savings on each prescription may vary, by using the Fetch My Meds Card you can save up to 70% at retail pharmacy locations. Average savings on prescriptions filled at a retail pharmacy are approximately 15% to 20% off of regular cash prices. For prescription medications ordered online, savings vary depending upon promotional activities taking place at the time of order.

Will I always receive the lowest price on pet meds and other pet supplies?

Yes. You will receive the best price available to you through this program at a retail pharmacy. On occasion, a certain pharmacy’s standard price on a particular medication will be lower than the discount rate provided by the card. If that occurs, you will receive the standard lower price.

Can I find out the discounted price of my pet’s prescriptions before going to a retail pharmacy? What about prescriptions ordered online?

Visit the Fetch My Meds Pricing page to obtain pricing information for a specific pharmacy in our network. In addition, from time to time, online pharmacies may run additional promotions and offer further discounts to their pricing. If a promotional code is provided, you may save additional money off of price displayed on our pricing page.

Why did the price of my pet’s prescription change since the last time I purchased the prescription?

Drug prices are different from pharmacy to pharmacy. Even chains have different prices in their stores depending on the population they are servicing and the competition in their specific geographic area. Additionally, manufacturers’ drug prices change periodically.

Do I have to pay at the time of service?

At a retail pharmacy you must pay the provider in order to fill your pet’s prescription. For prescriptions filled online, you must pay at the time the order is placed.
